Both default Moodle text editors, Atto and TinyMCE offer similar interfaces and plenty of customization options. Mealor warns that, thanks to the ample customization and augmentation capabilities for the Moodle’s toolbars, the options in your own site may differ from his enumeration. You can thank your admin for that! Moodle activites that includes text editors, be it a Forum, a Wiki or a Workshop, enables several interactivity and multimedia options, from images and GIFs to videos. Before Moodle 3.5 brought in-situ recording, embedding files previously recorded was possible from the toolbars. Video insertion allows for several “bells and whistles,” including closed captioning and multiple sources. Non-multimedia files and even table editing tools are also available.

The new embedded recording capabilities available in Moodle 3.5 mean that sites no longer have to install a recording plugin. But they are not expected to replace the extended functionality available from plugins like BigBlueButton or PoodLL any time soon. They just add quick multimedia interaction capabilities in a simple way. More robust solutions still inhabit the Moodle Plugin Directory.
