Proud moment for all Moodle users is on the way as the Moodle founder & CEO – Dr. Martin Dougiamas is nominated and now is a finalist for the Australian of the Year award 2017. Dr. Martin is nominated for his contribution and continued work towards online education from West Australia.

Since 1960, Australia is celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of eminent citizens through the Australian of the Year awards. The award is given for four categories:

  • Australian of the Year
  • Senior Australian of the Year (those aged 65 years or over)
  • Young Australian of the Year (ages 16 to 30)
  • Australia’s Local Hero

Electrifying News for Moodle Users: #Moodle Founder & CEO - Martin Dougiamas nominated for Australian of the Year award 2017The award works at two levels – State/Territory and National level. The selection committee selects four finalists for each category, with one of these finalists becoming the state/territory award recipient. The other candidates selected by the selection committee for Western Australia Award finalists – Australian of the Year are:

  • Professor Arlene Chan – Breast cancer researcher (Perth)
Dr Martin Dougiamas – Online education pioneer (West Perth)
  • Dr James Fitzpatrick – Paediatrician (Cottesloe)
  • Andrew Forrest – Philanthropist and anti-slavery advocate (Perth)

The state/territory winners will then become the national finalists for awards where the National Australia Day Council Board select the Australians of the Year from the group of 32 State and Territory recipients.
The winners of Western Australia awards will be announced on 20th November 2016 at Government House in Perth and they will join the national finalists in Canberra on 25 January 2017. Check out the full news here.
