Everyone is hotly anticipating the release of Moodle 3.1 on May 23rd and the documentation for the new version is being rolled out as quickly as possible. I was perusing over the documentation for the Assignment module today and was particularly excited to see some of the new features for 3.1 starting to take shape:

Post Pages - Post Inline - WIRIS

Annotating Submissions

By activating the ‘Comment inline’ feature of Assignment, teachers will have the ability to annotate PDFs, docx or odt files. Annotation can be done with a bunch of different tools or comments (depending on what you’re admin has allowed). All saved annotations are available to students as a part of the feedback they receive.

Downloading Submissions

In Moodle 3.1, teachers will have the ability to download selected assignment submissions. All you have to do is tick which ones you want and then choose ‘With Selected… Download selected submissions’.

  1. The ability to download selected submissions is going to be particularly useful where the are very large and you don’t want to be waiting a huge amount of time (and imposing a big server load).
