As posted last week [link], Sam Hemelryk is working on a replacement plugin for the Moodle.org site to replace the DB module which currently hosts all of the contributed plugins/modules and themes available to the Moodle community. There’s been a long discussion about the features to be included and how it might work at http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=167764.
This morning Mr. Hemelryk unveiled a prototype of the new module and it looks like a great leap forward for managing and maintaining a growing extensions/theme repository. Check out Sam’s work and his updated post at http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=167764#p739479

Looks very promising as a tool to help clarify and simplify the search for new modules, plugins and themes.
