Over the last few years there has been a multifaceted effort to provide the software available as a download from Moodle.org as a hosted, end-user solution without any need to install or configure.  With the advent of cheap server space and an embrace of the “software as a service” (SaaS) business model, quite a few “free” Moodle hosting companies and organizations have started springing up across the web (note that these are not limited to Moodle Partners).

As a researcher of all things Moodle, www.MoodleMonthly.com will be highlighting and reviewing the various services currently available (and those that surface in the future).  We plan to evaluate each as objectively as possibly on several criteria:

  • ‘Freemium’ services – the basic level of service provided at zero cost
  • Premium services – what can you get above and beyond Moodle hosting?
  • Benefits
  • Drawbacks
  • Community
  • Company history (if possible)

If you know/operate a Moodle hosting company that warrants a review please contact MoodleMonthly (http://www.moodlemonthly.com/contact/).  We will be sure to include customer reviews in each posting.

Stay tuned for the first review: http://www.e-socrates.org/
