Just days before the launch of Moodle 3.6, a last-minute upgrade is already available.
Moodle 3.6.1 brings a fix considered essential for the revamped Messaging activity in Moodle. It was annouced by Moodle HQ’s Open Source Development Coordinator, Sander Bangma. He suggests all users skipping Moodle 3.6 and updating to Moodle 3.6.1 directly.
The messaging bug was first reported by Austrian Moodle contributor Stefan Weber. Moodle HQ staff and other volunteers confirmed it. A detailed issue in the Moodle Tracker showed a series of flaws:
- The messaging icon may “blink” even when there are no messages
- Persistent “unread” notifications even after all messages are read
- Marking a “starred” message may hide it completely
The issue had been now marked as “Fixed” and “Closed.” It seems addressed thoroughly for Moodle 3.6.1.
Other fixes include a Facebook logo correction, and “Calculated multichoice question able to answer with negative note in interactive mode.” See the complete Moodle 3.6.1 release notes.
