Long time Moodler Gareth Barnard is announcing the release of a beta version of “Essential” theme, the best ranked, favorited and most downloaded Moodle Theme on most days.

On a Moodle forum post, he also expresses his gratitude with the Moodleverse. The current development process of “Essential” follows a successful crowdfunding campaign. It achieved upwards of 200% its funding goal.

But the process is not done yet. As a “beta” release, Barnard warns it is best to try the theme on a test server and it is not ready for final, production level Moodle installations.

He claims the beta is compatible with Moodle 3.3, which is not officially out yet but an “Alpha 3.3dev” version is available and constantly updated on github.com/moodle.

Besides the extended compatibility, new features and fixes in the “Essential” theme, version Beta include:

  • Fixed pictured and icons
  • Increased compatibility with Travis CI testing and deployment tool
  • More room for translation via language packs
  • JQuery arrangements
  • CSS and LESS tweaks
  • Responsive logo
  • Right-To-Left (RTL) languages display fixes
  • Customizable action menu color
  • New “Switch role” option
