Jichi Medical University in Tochigi will kick off 2017’s calendar of MoodleMoots around the world. The unvaluable networking opportunities for “Moodlers” and educational technologists at MoodleMoot Japan 2017 will happen February 17th to 19th. A blog post on Moodle.com shares some details on what attendees can expect this time, beyond this year’s tagline: “Active Learning: the Moodle Way.”
2017 will be of particular importance for the main players at the world’s MoodleMoots: Moodle HQ and the Moodle Users Association, MUA. Moodle 3.2 has been Moodle HQ’s large bet to earn more converts to the Open Source LMS, and the attendees will be expecting to be dazzled by the new release.
On the MUA side, chairman Powell recently explained how, to sustain an increasingly improving level of contribution to Moodle, it is imperative to amass a larger number of members. For this reason, MUA is also expected to play a larger role on upcoming “Moots”.
This position is supported by Professor Hideto D. Harashima, President of the Moodle Association of Japan. He was there in 2009 when the first Japanese “Moot” took place with 50 attendees, and since 2011 on Presidential capacities. For this year, upwards of 300 people are expected. Other features of this year’s Japan “Moot” are:
- Renowned keynotes, including Moodle Founder and CEO Martin Dougiamas
- 50 regular, lightning and case-study presentations
- 12 hands-on workshops
- An evening ceremony to honor winners of the Association’s R&D Grants, Best Moodle Innovation Awards, and Best Open Courseware Awards.
- A “Proceedings” publication, on the weeks following the event.
The content is expected to be 50% in English, 50% in Japanese.
MoodleMoot Japan 2017 not only hopes to bring to the Nation some insight about best practices globally, but to export their innovative “active learning” notion, all the rage across the country’s education sector.
Registration for MoodleMoot Japan 2017 closes on Wednesday, February 8th.
