The largest higher ed market in the world has no signs of slowing down. India is ranked fifth in Moodle nation for most registered sites and the country is finally getting the MoodleMoot it deserves. Starting on Monday, December 18th, a two-day program in Mumbai will be opened by Moodle CEO, Martin Dougiamas. MoodleMoot India 2017 will offer educators, administrators, developers, officials, and enthusiasts a chance to network and get up to speed with the largest, open source LMS.
An update on moodle.com shares important updates about the event, which in Moot fashion will feature workshops, masterclasses, keynotes by Dougiamas and Solange Lalonde –one of Moodle’s recent hires for the new Education team– and a Moodle Party to top it all off.
The importance of technology to address the growing education demands of the Indian population, especially for the 10- to 24-year-old demographic, is universally recognized at the industry and government level. Investment capital has been flowing steadily in the hopes of supporting nationwide initiatives where online education is front and center, and possibly the only approach. Consultant KPMG estimates India’s online education market will approach $2 billion USD by 2021. Furthermore, Indian youths have shown to be ahead of trends in terms of market penetration and engagement achievement, which later spill over the rest of the world, especially when it comes to the adoption of low-cost, free, or open technologies.
Along with Dougiamas and Lolande, Tom Murdock will also join as a Moodle HQ representative for a discussion on “Social Reconstruction” and “Social Efficiency” approaches in Moodle. See the full program here.
