Moodle as the name suggests is the acronym for Modular object-oriented dynamic learning environment. It is not only the Moodle core which gives you the ability to create an online learning portal for all industries. It is well supported by the Moodle plugins which allows to customize the Moodle core to add new features.
Moodle plugin directory contains more than 1400+ plugins contributed by more than 785 developers. Before the release of Moodle 3.0, Moodle HQ team initiated a new medal for the plugins, which are marked as ready before the release of Moodle core.
The new initiative – Early Bird Badge has a good response from the Moodle community developers. During the last time for Moodle 3.3, a total of 153 Moodle plugins have the Early Bird badge. For Moodle 3.2 the count was 129. The count of Moodle plugins getting the Early Bird badge is keeps on increasing since every new Moodle release.
Awarding the Early Bird badge is a good initiative to motivate the community plugin developers to keep their plugin up-to-date with the latest release of Moodle. On the other hand, it helps the site administrators to easily upgrade their Moodle site to new version without waiting for plugins update.

How to get involved:

If you are a Moodle plugin developer, you can also earn the Early Bird badge for your Moodle plugin by:

  • Marking your Plugin as Moodle 3.4 compatible
  • Test your plugins intensively against Moodle 3.4 beta (Behat and PHPUnit tests help a lot).
  • Fix all eventually raised warnings, notices, regressions and problems.
  • Release a new compatible version in the plugins directory, or mark the existing one as compatible.

Moodle 3.4 is scheduled to be released on 13th November 2017, so make sure that you make your Moodle plugins compatible with Moodle 3.4 before that.
Many thanks to David for keeping this trend and improving the overall Moodle plugins ecosystem. The best thing about this initiative is the motivation for plugin developers to make their plugins ready before any major version release.

Moodle 3.4 QA testing updates:

Moodle 3.4 QA testing is seems to be a bit lagging this time. Out of a total 576 tests till date only 70% tests are marked as passed with still 160 tests yet to be carried out.
So hurry up guys & girls and let’s make this happen before the scheduled release date of Moodle 3.4. If you would like to contribute in the QA testing, please check out this page.
