Make 2017 Your Year Of Moodle Competency Frameworks

Like many standardization efforts of education, they should be approached with care, and even a dose of skepticism. But adopting them is critical if there are any hopes of understanding the impact or evolution of a learning intervention. A competency framework can be just a conversation starter about a class content, methods or general approach. With Moodle 3.2 and its ability to share and export competency frameworks, the conversation can include point of comparison among learning interventions under a similar subject and set of goals.

In practice, a competency framework can be stored in a spreadsheet. Moodle 3.2 is compatible with CSV spreadsheet files, which means it can produce a framework and exported to a CSV; and it can import a competency framework from a CSV file, as long as it has the right format and values.

Moodle 3.2 is by itself a great way to get started with competency frameworks, but it gets even better with the Competency Framework Repository at the Open Educational Resources (OER). It features dozens of frameworks, including the popular Common European Framework of Reference for Language, or several Common Core frameworks, by subject.

Importing and exporting competency frameworks takes place in the Moodle 3.2 site administration menu.
