Slack – the cloud based team collaboration tool may soon find a way for Moodle users. Slack offers a lot of IRC-like features: persistent chat rooms (channels) organized by topic, as well as private groups and direct messaging. Slack teams allow communities, groups, or teams to join through a specific URL or invitation sent by a team admin or owner. Are you interested in using Slack with your Moodle environment?

Mike Churchward – Executive Director of POET shared his work in progress about Slack Message Output plugin for Moodle. Mike played around with the Slack Incoming Webhook API to integrate Moodle to a Slack team. The plugin is now available as a Beta version and will be soon released through the Moodle plugins directory. You can download the Beta plugin from this GitHub link and test it out on your testing server.
Slack integrated with Moodle allows each user to specify their Slack username within that team site to have their Moodle notifications forwarded there. Because of the clear advantages of Slack for communication and collaboration, this plugin holds a lot of potential. It can be used in multiple ways in your online course.
