CLAMP is an initiative of colleges and universities—40 strong and growing—mainly in the United States, looking to provide an accessible and useful version of Moodle for organizations at any scale. But the impact of “Moodle LAE,” CLAMP’s main effort, is most tangible in smaller places, where dedicated investments in resources and staff into a custom-fit LMS are not possible, even if the software is free. An affordable version of Moodle ready for Liberal Arts ends is not, however, Moodle LAE’s only advantage, as Academic Commons explains:
«While the lack of licensing fees initially attracts many campuses, the flexibility of working with an open source tool also becomes a real advantage, allowing for additional customization to meet the specific needs of the institution.»
Moodle LAE 2.7 and 3.0 are the last releases for these versions, as they are no longer supported by Moodle HQ. A Liberal Arts Edition for Moodle 3.3 will be prepared, with a beta ready for the upcoming CLAMP “Summer Hack/Doc Fest” in June.
