IBM’s Watson is ready to take on something really tough – “Teaching the Third Grade Mathematics”. By the end of the year the platform will be available for free to third grade math teachers across US and will add subject areas and grades over the time.
So, What is IBM Watson Exactly?
“IBM Watson is a technology platform that uses natural language processing and machine learning to reveal insights from large amounts of unstructured data”.
The Watson platform popular for beating the Jeopardy! champions in way back 2011 and is used in specialized medical diagnosis applications like Cancer.
From last two years, IBM foundation worked along with American Federation of Teachers, to build a new program named “Teacher Advisor” which uses artificial-intelligence to answer the educators questions and help them in building more personalized lesson plans.
“The idea was to build a personal adviser, so a teacher would be able to find the best lesson and then customize the lesson based upon their classroom needs,” said Stanley S. Litow, president of the IBM Foundation.
“By loading a massive amount of content, of teaching strategies, lesson plans, you’d actually make Watson the teacher coach,” Mr. Litow said.
Watson will definitely help the teachers in digesting the common core standards and use them in their daily lessons.
