learning analytics native moodle

There is a relatively new doc posted over at Moodle.org that gives an interesting overview of the level of usage of the different analytical tools available within Moodle natively (that is, reports, blocks, activities, etc.). The usage stats were drawn from the 2015 plugin usage survey.

Seven of the top 10 tools are Reports, with Logs, Activity and Activity Completion taking the three slots at 71.4%, 69.1% and 66.3% usage, respectively. The Progress Bar, Events List andActivity Results Block were some of the least used at 32%, 28.6% and 26.1% and the Configurable Reports block was at the bottom of the barrel at 22.7% usage.

Interestingly, six of the listed analytical tools have a “N/A” reported usage. Assumedly, this was because they were not included in the plugin survey.

The doc also notes there are “a number” of other, external, systems that integrate with Moodle for analytical reporting, but only the Moodle Activity Viewer and Intelliboard are listed specifically.
