Here’s a cool block that lets you showcase what newest files have been uploaded to a course. As a student you can see the files and docs uploaded and even pin them in the case the final project paper instructions are posted as a PDF and you don’t want to lose them. The Recent Files Block is available for Moodle 2.8 and 2.9.

According to the description,

The recent files block provides a moodle block which shows a configurable number of the most recently uploaded or modified files (mod_resource) and folders (mod_folder) in the course resources of the courses the user is enrolled in with a startdate somewhere within 7 months from the current date, thereby filtering possibly stale courses. It also provides an option for the user to pin files and folders for later reference.
