I’ve been playing around with a new look and feel for a clients site which previously used WordPress as their CMS and I am leaning more towards a unified CMS and LMS using the News Forum and Book module for pages. The standard news forum on the front page though was displaying the entire posts–elongating the page needlessly when what I really wanted was a snippet and then “Read more…” link so that the front page wasn’t cluttered but still provided a valuable overview to content not yet visible. Thankfully I found this great thread at Moodle.org that helped me get it done: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=98934.
To get this desired effect you’ll need to adjust the forum module’s settings in the Administration block of your site.
Click “Forum”
Then edit long and short post length until you get the desired effect. I went very low with a 10 character threshold (since the posts will likely be shorter, I also renamed the front page news forum to “Site Blog” for added effect)
Voila: desired effect achieved.
Pinning would be good too! -> https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-372
I was thinking that, but if you just open the post you want and edit it’ll be the 1st post always (even though it might have a much older original post date). Low tech but effective.
