The “[insert scholarly topic here] for Dummies” series provides distillations of popular topics and content areas.  It makes perfect sense perhaps that they’ve finally made one for Moodle. A printed version of the book, written by Radana Dvorak is available for $29.99 at the website, but they also have a handy “cheat sheet” that can get you started.

The cheat sheet covers three main topics:

  1. Navigating Moodle (complete with some nice tables that highlight all of the theme icons and their purpose/description)
  2. Finding resources on Moodle (what sites to visit, who to follow, where the best documentation lives)
  3. Moodle shortcuts (a list of the keyboard commands, for Windows, which work on some browsers with the HTMLarea text editor)

I have not read the book, but the online tutorial (especially the charts of icons) is particularly helpful for newbie Moodlers.  Check out the resource yourself by visiting: (which has all three “parts” on the same page).  You can also download the whole first chapter at this link.
