Dave Mozealous, at Mozealous.com published a great Screenr.com video about how to locate new themes and install them on a Moodle site.  The video is only 4 minute and covers the essentials

Post Pages - Post Inline - WIRIS
  • how/where to pick themes already installed
  • where to find and download new themes
  • where to upload themes (via FTP) on your Moodle site
  • where to find additional information about a theme

His tutorial also highlighted the many themes available as free downloads at Moodle.org: http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?id=6552

Note that if you are not your Moodle’s administrator and do not have FTP access to the Moodle theme folder you will not be able to change the theme beyond the permissions given to your individual class (themes can be defined at the course level on some sites).
