Ralph Blackwelder (@webyer) has a really interesting video on Youtube that highlights his use of Digsby‘s (a free chat utility/web service) Widget in an HTML block (http://widget.digsby.com/) which he employs instead of the Moodle chat.  By doing so it allows him to provide students a simple easy way to connect with him anytime he’s online at one of his computers (he doesn’t have to be logged into Moodle with the chat open).

Post Pages - Post Inline - WIRIS

The widget in his classroom lets students know whether or not he’s online (and provides 1-click chatting).  Pretty slick.

  • easy access for students
  • allows access even when not logged into Moodle

  • ID verification
  • need the chat client
  • logs?

Check it out and let us know what you think…
